I went to SLC Comic Con this weekend. It was amazing! I got to meet Simon Fisher-Becker. For those of you who don’t know who that is, he played the Fat Friar in Harry Potter and he also played Dorian (the big blue alien) in Doctor Who. I got really excited, but was able to contain myself enough to not completely wig out in front of him.
While it would have normally cost $10 to get a picture with him, because I bought a 3 day ticket, I received 2 $5 vouchers for a celebrity photo op. So I got to get a picture with him for free. It was awesome. I also went back and just talked to him several times. He seems like an incredibly nice guy. It was fun.
My friends had a booth there, selling and promoting their book The Tale of Telsharu. It had been a while since I read it, but the first time I read it I had stayed up until 5 a.m. And then had to get up the next morning. Not a good plan. So, of course, I wanted to read it again, but this time I was smart enough to give myself several hours in the afternoon to read it instead of waiting until later at night. It was just as good as I remember it being. I’m excited for their next book that is coming out the first of November.
On Saturday, there were so many people at the Con that the Fire Marshall actually made them stop letting people in. Everyone is saying that they will need a bigger venue for next year, which is absolutely true. But I’m not sure there is a bigger venue that they can use. So we’ll see. I’m hoping that my friend and I will be able to get a booth for next year. And hopefully I’ll have a book out.
Mostly it was just an absolutely awesome experience. It was fantastic to be so surrounded by nerds just like me. I’ll just share a few of my pictures.
